Participants engage in opportunities to explore, discover and enjoy natural places while experiencing hands-on nature study.

Forest Ecology
Programs provide an integrated look at an ecosystem by teaching participants to become more aware of the interactions taking place around them. These activities are designed to increase participant's awareness and knowledge of trees.

Wildlife Ecology
Experience the wild world of animals and discover the different adaptations that help them survive. The key concepts inherent in these programs will be to show the participants the interdependence of animal life with their environment.

Plant Ecology
These programs are an introduction to the properties of parts of a plant. Programs will focus on characteristics of seeds, leaves, and investigate parts of a flower. Some programs offer magnifying lenses to observe the differences among plants. Some may dissect a seed, sort and categorize seeds and leaves according to various characteristics (color, shape, texture, ect). Others teach about wild edibles, how/ when to harvest and how to prepare.

Earth Science
Explore what makes up the earth and how it grows and changes. Experience plate tectonics, weather, and forces of nature. Learn about the shaping of mountains, investigate earthquakes and examine volcanoes. Discover how rocks are formed and how they are worn away. Learn about rock types and the different landforms created by the movement of rocks and soil.

Survival Skills
Combine a mix of fun and interactive learning, these programs stimulate the senses and support the soul. Participants learn outdoor living skill; practice orientation skills using a compass, maps or the natural environment to find their way.

Water Naturalist
Participants will explore different water habitats to examine and compare the creatures found in each. Stand knee-deep with a naturalist and make your own discoveries. Learn to identify aquatic organisms, while appreciating the splendor of a riparian ecosystem. All organisms investigated will be released.

Astronomy
Enjoy the night sky. Learn how the early explorers found their way navigating by the stars. Learn constellations, stars, and man-made objects in the skies above.

Keep on Tracking Hike
Join a professional naturalist on a guided hike through a park of your choice. Each participant will receive a dichotomous key and learn the importance of ‘relaxation’, it is the most important part of nature observation. Animals can sense when you are agitated, anxious or fearful and will disappear. We will discuss and practice a variety of sensory awareness (vision – wide angle / focus), focused hearing, camouflage, stalking techniques (fox walk / weasel walk) and tracking safety. Tracking is not limited to mammals; insects and reptiles have tracks too. We will also discuss large, medium, small and ghost ‘signs’: what to look for and how to identify them. (some tracks will be "pre-made" to assist in the measuring and classification activities during the hike).

Finding Your Way Hike
Join a professional naturalist on a guided hike through a park of your choice and learn orientation skills. Participants will make a compass and investigate properties of magnetism. The group gathers together. Using the compass, they learn how to determine which direction is north, south, east and west then they will be divided into 2 groups. They will each be given a compass course to follow; some clues will be hidden along the trail ways for the next directional marker. During the "Finding Your Way" activity, all participants will make a map of their course. After both groups successfully complete their courses they will exchange the maps they made with the other group and the participants will follow the maps made to end up back at the starting point.
